about today

the beat hit and I felt my soul
lift from my body
leaving my crying eyes behind
an empty shell of flesh sat
in the coffee shop
drown in the flood of emotion

but I departed
gone through the ceiling
gray and blue marbled skies
across the vast fields

cars waltzing over salt crusted freeways
boys in the rear-view mirror
laughing and slapping hands

away from the bright-eyed business boy
breaking the lock of our gaze
awake of nerves
the hermit and his paper
a meeting of minds
finding my destiny in the stars

don’t worry about my body
when my soul is free

’cause my soul doesn’t have feet

[draft of a poem.]
